Discover how Katrina B. leveraged WACOSA’s personalized resources to command a stage of 100 people and advocate for herself through the power of professional inclusion.

Katrina B. joined WACOSA in October 2024 with excitement and a bit of nervousness. This transition represented a critical and exciting new chapter in her life, filled with potential for growth and further independence, but also the inevitable uncertainty that comes with major change. Katrina’s kind nature, wickedly good sense of humor, and impressive resilience quickly turned that uncertainty into momentum.

Her journey with WACOSA swiftly led to some fun challenges and rewarded with some solid achievements. Katrina pursued her incredible sense of humor. Supported and cheered on by WACOSA staff, she wrote and presented “The K.B. Show,” a live comedy performance in August 2025 for an audience of over 100 people. This milestone, accomplished with assistance from volunteer Comedy Coach, Heather Mastromarco, was a profound demonstration of her ability to connect with the community and achieve ambitious personal goals. Katrina credits her success with the strong friendships and unique opportunities WACOSA provided.

Building on this foundational success, and despite navigating communication using a speech device, Katrina collaborated with WACOSA’s Marketing Director and Spirit Radio to create a successful radio advertisement for ThriftWorks. This project required dedication and trial-and-error, culminating in her voice airing publicly—a powerful step toward professional inclusion and self-advocacy.

Katrina’s success is a direct measure of the impact of WACOSA’s mission. Your support provides the specialized staff, personalized resources, and community platforms required to convert an individual’s potential into lasting increases in independence and realized goals. Investing in WACOSA is investing in the future of individuals like Katrina, ensuring they have the confidence and structure needed to command a stage, share their voice on the radio, dream big, and thrive in their community.
